Stainless Skin
Stainless Skin is a sculptural outcome presenting the exploration of vibration motors. Exploring these simple electronic components on designed surfaces through rapid iteration revealed autonomous characters. Through the process of combining the motors and each of the varying environments a seemingly contradictory embodiment of their autonomous behaviour began to pose a question to robotics, Artificial Intelligence and electronic capabilities. The artistic mindset of sculpture combined with practice lead physical computing investigation enabled me to prescribe autonomous behaviour.
The sculpture is comprised of 5 different environments which provide shelter to their agents. The project synthesises environmental design to stimulate and superimpose personalities on each of the motorised agents.
